Inside Saucony: A Behind‑the‑Scenes Look at Innovation and Community
Updated: Sep 23

Earlier this month I visited the Saucony office in Boston, MA, where their Research and Development team brings each footwear concept to life. Hearing directly from the engineers who work on the Endorphin Speed line gave me a greater understanding of how much intention goes into every update. The presentation and Q&A helped all of us in Run Specialty retail and gave us a better understanding of the “why” behind the product and how to translate that knowledge into meaningful conversations with customers.

One detail that stood out was the amount of testing the foam undergoes before it ever reaches a prototype. The level of precision and care directly influences durability, with designs pushing toward a lifespan closer to five hundred miles. I’ve always had great experiences with the Ride model, and hearing the R&D team validate its durability was a moment of real alignment between what I see on the sales floor and what happens behind the scenes.
After the tour, we headed to the Seaport district for a Spirit of Boston cruise, where I had the chance to connect more personally with the engineers and coworkers from other locations. Talking through different perspectives on product design, runner needs, and the future of the sport reminded me why I enjoy being part of this industry. Experiences like this reinforce how curiosity, collaboration, and shared knowledge strengthen both the running community and the work we do every day.
